Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) 2007-2008


The North Star Charter School PTO supports the school’s mission of developing character, virtues and leadership in a safe environment, in the pursuit of accelerated learning. The PTO supports the NSCS faculty, administration and Board of Directors by raising funds for purchasing items needed for the school, by addressing special requests of staff, teachers, and departments and by sponsoring many programs that provide direct needs for the students and staff. Volunteer Opportunities

You can make a difference at North Star!

As we are all aware, North Star is different from other public schools in many ways because it IS a charter school. We don’t have district resources to back us up or lift the load of our school. If there is something that needs to be done at the school, we as a school community (students, parents, school board, teachers and parents) carry the responsibility. Parents have the opportunity to contribute much to our school and they are desperately needed. We encourage all families to find a way to volunteer time.

* If you can help in your child’s classroom on a regular basis—fantastic—just let the Room Mom know and she will help coordinate when the teacher needs parents.
* There will be occasions when a teacher needs further classroom help or resources; room moms will also be asking parents to assist. Please help as you can.
* If you can serve on a PTO committee (there are many to choose from with differing commitment levels), we’d love to have you. See the attached sheet for a list of committees and openings to head those committees.
* If you can come in on a regular basis and help with a variety of projects around the school, you will be greatly appreciated!
* If you can’t plan ahead, but can find an hour here or there, COME IN, and we’ll put you to work!

The PTO is committed to matching volunteers with opportunities! We will be putting a bulletin board in the entryway at the school. On this board will be projects that parents can help teachers with at a moment’s notice. All you have to do is stop in! Some will require several hours, others will be shorter. Some can even be completed at home. We hope to have it up and running the first couple of weeks of school. Please check the board and see what you can do. Don’t forget that some employers allow their employees to contribute a number of hours each month in the classrooms.
