Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much tuition does North Star charge? North Star Charter School is an independently operated public school, chartered by the Meridian School District. This charter was initiated by local parents. No tuition is charged, and our school must meet the same requirements as traditional schools.
  • Will my child be able to keep up with the accelerated pace? In Harbor schools, students learn that they have multiple opportunities to learn information and to demonstrate their understanding and skill. Students learn the instructional routines in early grades which accelerate their ability to focus on new information, skill development and thinking skills. Teachers tell students often, "If you do not get it the first time, you will get it the next time."
  • How can I volunteer? The academic success and financial viability of North Star is dependent upon a strong commitment from parents. Families are expected to commit to a minimum of 96% attendance and to volunteer in the classroom and serve on committees. The PTO has a coordinator who organizes parent volunteers and you may contact the PTO at pto@northstarcharter.org
  • Does North Star offer hot lunch? Local restaurants cater lunches to students four days a week, or students may bring a sack lunch.
  • Will my child be able to participate in sports at other schools in the area? North Star students may participate in music and sports programs at the school in whose attendance zone they reside. Their parents are responsible for transportation from North Star to any of these events.
