2021-2022 NORTH STAR

Teachers' Choice

ENHANCING OUR STUDENTS’ LEARNING EXPERIENCES

Total Goal: $85,000

Based on our teachers’ feedback, we have identified the following seven areas of need that our current budget does not cover.

Please help us fulfill these goals to provide enhanced and rich learning experiences for our students.

Art Program

(Funding Goal: $5,000)

“The purpose of art education is not to produce more artists, though that is a good byproduct. The real purpose of arts education is to create complete human beings capable of leading successful and productive lives in a free society.” – Dana Gioia

The North Star Art teachers wish to add pottery as part of an already robust art curriculum and room based art supplies for the elementary students. The art department is asking for your help in purchasing the necessity items to make this wish a reality.

Examples of how the funds raised would be spent include but are not limited to:

  • Pottery wheels, pottery tables, pottery supplies
  • Watercolors, art pens, art papers, mosaic supplies and other supplies

Music Program

(Funding Goal: $12,500)

“Music enhances the education of our children by helping them to make connections and broadening the depth with which they think and feel. If we are to hope for a society of culturally literate people, music must be a vital part of our children’s education.”  – Yo-Yo Ma

Musical instruments can be expensive and difficult for some families to afford.  Our music department is in need of a few specific instruments and equipment to enhance the overall musical experience.

Examples of how the funds raised would be spent include but aren’t limited to:

  • Instruments
  • A piano
  • Sound system for musical presentations and performances
  • Music risers and platforms

Science Program

(Funding Goal: $15,000)

“Science education is not the learning of facts but the training of the mind to think” – Albert Einstein

Science expands our understanding of the world around us and the technology for science is always evolving and improving. It is important for our science program to have the most up to date devices to help provide a first class education for the students. The science teachers are asking for help in purchasing various pieces of equipment that will further enhance their teaching of the sciences to North Star students.

Examples of how funds raised would be spent include but aren’t limited to:

      • Digital microscopes

      • Microscope slides and specimens

Athletics Program

(Funding Goal: $7,500)

“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” – John F. Kennedy

While a school focuses on the education and emotional wellbeing of its students it can often lose sight of their physical wellbeing.  We believe that our students should understand the importance of physical fitness and how impactful it can be to their overall wellness.  To continue to maintain a robust and vibrant physical education program our teachers are requesting certain items.

Examples of how the funds raised would be spent include but aren’t limited to the following:

    Physical Education Program:
    Funding Goal:  $5,000

      • Frisbee Golf Baskets for North Star Field
      • Weight lifting equipment
      • Pickle ball paddles and nets

    Middle School Intramurals:
    Funding Goal:  $2,500

This program provides the opportunity for students in grades 6-12 to participate in a wide variety of after school Intramural sports including, volleyball, basketball, pickleball, ultimate Frisbee and other activities.  Within our community there are some students who may not be able to afford the fees for these activities.  The funds donated for this program would be used for scholarships for students in need.

    Technology Program

    (Funding Goal: $30,000 )

“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teachers hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” – David Warlick

Integrating innovative technology into the classroom is critical in preparing students for the 21st century. Our budget supports a majority of our technology needs but we need to continue to invest in our technology within the classrooms.

Examples of how the funds raised would be spent include but aren’t limited to:

    K-5 Technology

    Funding goal : $15,000

      • Sharp Aquos Smart boards
      • IPAD upgrades
      • Chromebook upgrades

    6-12 Technology

    Funding Goal:  $15,000

      • Smart projectors
      • Chromebook
      • Lap tops for student use

    GREATEST NEED

    (Funding Goal:  $10,000)

“Education should be one of our top funding priorities. Talking about it does not help the teachers and students who desperately need promises fulfilled.”  – Solomon Ortiz

The State continues to look at education and funding education as a top priority.  We at North Star continue to be committed to fulfilling our mission by educating your children to the best of our abilities given the funding that has been provided to us.  Your gift to the Teachers Choice Campaign for FY 22 is greatly appreciated.

Your gift will be applied to the area you selected. However, if the area selected has been fulfilled or you would simply like to gift to an area of greatest need then please feel free to give to the Greatest Need funding bucket.
